OVB Patch 3.0.0 Notes Empty OVB Patch 3.0.0 Notes

Post by Six Mon Mar 11, 2019 12:00 am

Welcome,

It is so very nice to see all of you again.. ..and oh, a few new faces as well, I believe. I'm pleased to announce the one true revival of the Velvet Order is now complete. Well, will a project of this scale ever truly be complete? Every post we submit down to every letter typed onto your screen is an addition to our site and more importantly, to our world. I'm ecstatic to be the one to deliver all of this new information to all of you and I hope that you'll be able to find something here that can expand upon your already impressive imaginative capabilities. Without further ado, let's dive right into these notes to see what has changed.

--

Combat

The signature free form combat system of OVB will remain relatively the same with a few core adjustments. This section will be detailed first as it is the single most important section to understand before you re-enter Ae'Ire. Please pay attention to everything stated and if you have any questions, send them my way via Discord.

Ranks

Ranks are going to be a core system of the site utilized as a reference system when a contest between two stats comes into play. In other words, when two attacks clash, a contest of speed, and the like. While a fully fleshed out stats system might allow for a more accurate measurement of these scales, OVB has always been a primarily free form site and will continue to hold this title.

Ranks come in two forms-- a full rank and a half rank. As the name implies, a half rank is only half as potent as a full rank. These ranks allow two fighters to directly compare their capabilities without the decision coming down to inaccurate reasoning. Below, the effectiveness of ranks will be compared with examples.

The five primary ranks are Force, Agility, Fortitude, Arcane, and Resistance. Most of these should be clear, but just for reference..

Force: Physical strength

Agility: Physical speed

Fortitude: Physical defense

Arcane: Magical strength

Resistance: Magical defense

The way ranks interact will be dependent on what rank of a stat you have in comparison to your opponent.

-If two of the same stat are compared and character A has a half rank of Force over character B and they enter a weapon clash, character A will have an small advantage and will very slowly overpower character B as the contest of power continues, but most clashes will feel relatively even unless it extends over multiple posts.

-If the same scenario happens but A has a full rank instead of a half rank, the advantage A has over B will be clearer. If said clash lasts longer than one post for both parties, A will slowly begin to overpower B.

-If the same scenario occurs but A has a rank and a half, then the advantage is even more potent. If a weapon lock occurs, then within B's post, they will already begin to be slowly overpowered.

-In the final scenario of A having two full ranks over B, it will be a clear advantage in A's favor and B would get steadily pushed back even at the start of a clash.

--

This same logic applies to all of the ranks. They are primarily a means of reference and will only be used as such.

The rank system is designed to deny a site stat meta. A stat meta is the worst possible scenario in a combat-oriented site and will never occur.

No matter how many abilities or passives or stacks a character may have, they can never exceed more than two full ranks into a single stat at any time (not counting FR)

Flicker

Flicker is a technique specific to those who have achieved "Veteran" status with their character (those with 5 ability slots earned through RP and character growth). Flicker allows the user to "flicker" their FR for a fraction of a moment. Utilized by Zechs Renaurd during the Regnum War and now as his last resort in his current, damaged state, FR allows the user to utilize the power of their FR for just a single moment without Ae'Ire turning its ire towards them. This also allows the user to enjoy a bit of their FR in combat even against non-FR users. The application for the creation of your Flicker will be up at a later date.

Characters

Designation and Specialization

When creating a character, you will be asked to select a Designation and a Specialization. These choices will determine your character's ranks in respective stats.

-Designations: Force, Agility, Arcane, Fortitude, Resistance (or just the five primary ranks). Your character will passively have one full rank in that stat.

-Specialization: Specializations are half as potent as Designations if you select another primary rank. So, if you set Force Des and Force Spec, you'll end up with 1.5 ranks. However, Specializations can be virtually anything.

Specializations can be whatever you want as long as it fits the bill. An example is "Fire magic", which would give you an entire rank in Arcane, but *only* in Fire magic since it specifies whereas Arcane gives a half rank in all magicks. Or, you could have "high quality magic circuits for Fire", which gives you justification towards having reduced cooldowns specifically for Fire magic. There are a few restrictions, however. The previous example with cooldowns must be specific to one thing and not all-encompassing. Anything that seems too powerful as a broad, multifaceted passive will usually need toning down.

*Note: Abilities that would use two stats scale off of the higher one but not both. This is a new system and this is subject to change, but this is how it is for now.

Mission Hub

No combat-oriented RP site would be complete without filler! The mission hub is new to OVB and takes the form of optional content that can award Pearls, the currency used for purchases in the OOC secret shop (detailed below in the patch notes). Missions are an easy way to facilitate character progression and growth while also enjoying short, no-baggage (or much baggage should you accept a continuous quest line) stories and combat topics, or maybe even topics fought with words rather than swords. It's very possible to achieve a mission through ways that don't result in a fist to the face, but hey. More often than not, a fist to the face is all it takes.

Missions will be acceptable within main cities and are only acceptable by those aligned to a nation. With the plethora of powerful warriors and competent intellectuals, most if not all nations will prefer to utilize those who work within their own interests compared to vagabonds. However, Sanc may occasionally have a quest or mission available for Rogues.

If a quest is taken, the taker may take along allies (amount limited by the quest, varying) that are Rogues but only those aligned to an acknowledged, non-enemy nation will receive the Pearl(s).

-Missions will be created, graded, distributed, and handled by Octo with assistance from myself in handling them IC.

-Mission difficulty will range from anywhere between Dark, Dim, Glimmer, Shine, and Incandescent with an attachment of either "Low" to constitute easier difficulty and "High" to indicate tougher difficulty.

-A character may only be on one mission at a time but you may have multiple characters in multiple missions, but no multiple characters in the same mission

Secret Shop

The secret shop is an OOC market in which Pearls are the currency. The secret shop is not up right now, but collecting Pearls via missions, combat, and story RP might pay off.

Additional Information

Races

-Caelators have been revamped as a race. They no longer get a free weapon and suit of armour upon creation. Instead, their souls are tethered to a single item which houses their proof of existence. As before, most Cae are the souls of warriors reborn to the planet to act as a soldier in the destined war between the Realms of Light and Dark. However, this war has no signs of happening any time soon and Cae have enjoyed thousands upon thousands of years of peace as a result to the point the prejudice between Light and Dark Cae has all but expired. However, the Caelator race does not enjoy its peace within Bright Ire. Instead, Cae have been stapled as the most prominent slave race on Bright Ire. Throughout Sanc, Giat Perr, and Coeura, the Chasers make up roughly seventy percent of the slave trade population. If you ask any Cae why they serve, they will tell you they sold themselves into service. Why? Because they were ordered to. Ownership of a Cae's item grants you their unbreakable subservience. Caelator are the most oppressed race on Bright Ire and seeing such capable, once-mythical warriors clean the streets and gather crops in exchange for harsh words and harsh treatment is still terrible, no matter how thick the walls are between the truth of what happens to an enslaved Cae. Cae also get a free base element now. Yay!

-Base elements are Fire, Ice, Water, Lightning, Nature, Wind, and Earth.

-Other races have had minor changes to their passives. Check them out here: https://o-v-b.forumotion.com/t386-race-catalog#2330

State Of The World

-Zechs Renaurd is damaged-- crippled by an arcane wound left by a terrible opponent. He intends to search for a cure, but cannot leave his nation without a protector..

-Sumaru Amaya returns from his training with a peculiar young lady. He has changed, grown, and matured in many ways. He looks for ways to increase his influence and gain allies in order to achieve his goal of resurrecting his teacher

-A shadow floats on the horizon of the Gemissant sea, but stays silent for a while longer

-Many old faces return to the spotlight..

-Vampires are unavailable to be used for a character

-Concuclare is not available for RP unless you are starting inside, but you cannot leave

-Zechs and Sumaru unknowingly compete for allies as more than one battle hangs over their heads for the fate of lives, ancient relics, and entire kingdoms.. they might look for your aid as well

Story Until Now

With the arrival of Giat Perr (nation) and Regnum (nation), the continent of Bright Ire (continent) shifted its foundation to a deeply entrenched mindset of disquietude. The collection of floating island states that made up Giat Perr eclipsed the long-settled peace of the land with its modernistic, business-minded influence and Regnum, the newest nation, held no reservations in shattering it entirely. As if on some invisible cue, the assassination of the king of Concuclare (nation) left the country in shambles and its heart was left unbeating, leaving the Vampire nation of Vesa Sa defenseless as Regnum proceeded with a seemingly random act of genocide against them. This lead to a sudden, yet extremely highlighted war between the two. With Vesa Sa at a tenth of Regnum's total population, they were decimated. It wasn't until the king of Sanc (nation) himself, Zechs Renaurd, took the battlefield and moved to end the war. With the help of now-hero Sidus, they worked together to defeat the 4th King of Regnum and restore peace to the continent at the unfortunate loss of nearly the entire Vampire population of the land..

..

This was a facade. The war in its entirety, the war that left hundreds of thousands dead, was the result of a misunderstanding and maybe so even greater at a king's lack of foresight. Regnum never instigated any war-- they simply responded to Vampire attacks on their defenseless towns and villages. Regnum met the forces of Vesa Sa for a skirmish after being forced to defend themselves against an onslaught of the randomly aggressive Vampires with their forces composed of not only soldiers, but women and children too... However, any information on the matter was almost expertly stifled and the only news the surrounding kingdoms received was that Regnum was going to war with a kingdom a tenth its size after committing genocide. Despite hesitating, Zechs Renaurd lifted his sword in the name of justice and stormed the Vasure Plains to defeat the 4th King. There, he learned of another threat behind the 4th King-- his grand adviser. Hex Ender looked to use the war as a distraction while he took control of the Seven Realms (gateways to realms of unspeakable potency and influence). Deciding the fate of the world was more important than the war in front of him, Zechs left the war to stop Hex.. but just before he was able to leave, the sun rose to the north. A seemingly literal sun was born in the midst of battle, roasting and incinerating a massive majority of both parties and effectively removing the Vampires as a race. Responsible for the birth of a star was Sumaru Amaya, the nearly-mad, once-ward of Xixas Averall (late leader of Concuclare) had gone over the edge and unleashed his final strength. Despite this, Zechs managed to freeze the sun itself and disarm Sumaru and continued on his way.

At the end of it all, Zechs clashed and defeated Hex Ender and Sumaru Amaya managed to slay the 4th King at the behest of a stranger and with the support of so many people who poured their souls into his hands before they vanished as spirits.

Five years pass and Regnum is now gone. A new, naturalist-nation in Coeura has emerged from the ring of storms surrounding the continent and Ire enjoys another age of peace.

When the truth about the war came out and it was clear Zechs Renaurd entered a war that resulted in hundreds of thousands of his soldiers killed, and it was all a mistake to attack Regnum or even start the war, his entire nation split into halves. Those who are against their incompetent king and those who remain loyal. Civil war is very much on the horizon for Sanc.

Sumaru Amaya is the most wanted criminal in Ire, but the truth behind his actions muddy the stories told. He is kill/capture on sight in Sanc, but Giat Perr considers the entirety of the war to have been an amusing development at best. Some say he can be found there.

Concuclare's new king has revitalized its nation but the borders are immensely tight, allowing no entrance or exit. Everywhere in Concuclare is guarded by Minders-- extremely thin suits of black and gray jagged armour with an incredible combat sentience.

Ae'Ire looks to the horizon once again, awaiting the coming of clouds and song.
